Keramies is one of the largest villages of Kefalonia with 374 permanent residents; its distance from Argostoli is 10 km. It was formerly the capital of the municipality of Leithathos and all the public services were provided there. It has an elementary school, middle and high school which is situated in the beautiful main square of Keramies.
Keramies is the place of origin of the national benefactor Panagis Vallianos, who financed the construction of Greece’s National Library and other very important projects. In Keramies visitors can find very decent rooms to let and villas for their stay and they can also enjoy their meal in the few but excellent taverns which are amidst beautiful gardens.
Very near to the village of Keramies there are the organized beaches of Ai Helis, Avithos where visitors can enjoy swimming, the lovely beach of Pessada and also the port of Pessada which, during the summer, connects Kefalonia with the northern part of the island of Zakynthos.
