Atheras is a small village in the northwestern part of Kefalonia. The village is 14 kilometers from Lixour1 and 35 kilometers from the island’s capital, Argostoli.

Atheras is built at an altitude of 250 meters and has a wonderful view of the sea. The beach of Porto Athera, just three kilometers from the village, is a beautiful and picturesque bay. The trademark of the beach is the chapel of Agios Spyridonas, which is painted in a bright “lilac” color. The also beautiful and stunning Petani beach is very close to Atheras.
On July 26, the village celebrates the name day of St. Agia Paraskevi. It is the large church in the village square with the wooden iconostasis dating back to the 19th century. On this day, there is a great feast on Atheras with traditional music. The village is filled with tourists and visitors who come from all over Kefalonia to have fun, listen to music and dance traditional dances.
